Accessories for your BACS system

The BACS options add several practical add-on features to a BACS system with which you can improve the overall performance of your system.

With the BACS options, you can directly activate air conditioning systems, monitor the quality of the charging current, couple contact-controlled feedback from other systems to BACS control mechanisms and much more.

BACS Bus Converter

The BACS bus converter serves two purposes: It is the interface with which you can upgrade a CS141 Professional or Modbus to a fully-featured BACS web manager. However, you can also connect the BACS bus converter to a computer and directly access the BACS tools on BACS modules and read them out or program them. Particularly when the BACS web manager is positioned impractically, you can go directly to the BACS modules with the BACS bus converter.

The BACS bus converter is not a stand-alone unit; a PC or CS141 WEBMANAGER is required.

Construction: Conversion and galvanic separation of the BACS battery bus to the BACS WEBMANAGER BUDGET plus real time clock (RTC) timer for the BACS WEBMANAGER.
Power Supply: Stabilized external 12V/2000mA
Number of modules: : Standard Power supply grants power for up to 360 BACS C modules. For up to 510 Modules and sensors, a larger power supply is available.

BACS SPLITTING BOX

The BACS splitting box is a passive element within the BACS installation and is used to divide the BACS bus into individual segments, which allows for a structured and space-saving installation. Within the BACS web manager, the physical wiring can also be logically divided into battery strings which can be observed and configured accordingly.

Construction: Passive splitter for BACS communication cables, designed to optimize the overall cable lengths and to create an optical pleasant wiring. In addition to the extension of the 2 BACS bus inputs of the BACS CONVERTER.

BACS Repeater

The longer the cables become, the greater the signal attenuation. If you operate near the limit of the maximum permissible cable lengths, interference may arise from the signal being too highly attenuated as a result of the cable length. The BACS repeater is a module with which you can bridge up to 100m between the BACS bus converter and the first BACS module, a BACS splitting box or between BACS modules. Its purpose is to amplify the incoming signal and pass it on to the BACS bus.

BACS Bus Interface

The digital BACS bus interface module offers the option of directly interacting with system-related components via zero-potential contacts. Up to 4 GX_R_AUX Bacs bus interface modules can be installed in a BACS system which makes up to 16 inputs and outputs available. The GX_R_AUX is used, for instance, to directly trip battery separators that have to be installed in accordance with several countries’ laws. The GX_R_AUX is supplied with the required operating voltage via the BACS bus and therefore does not require its own power supply unit.

BACS Profibus Converter

Converter from BACS RS232 COM2 MODBUS to Profibus fieldbus. External DIN rail device, 230V/59Hz-12V 500mA power supply and COM2 MODBUS mini DIN 8 cable included – Wide range input power supply voltage 10-33 VDC, DB-9 fieldbus connector (cable not included). BACS standard Modbus values starting from address 1000 and UPS values starting from address 100 are supported. German and English user documentation.

SENSORMANAGER for BACS

Universal environmental datamanager for up to 8 temperatures, humidities, voltages, etc., up to 4 input alarm contacts, up to 4 output contacts – Optional module BACS WEBMANAGER, connection to COM2.

The SENSORMANAGER expands the BACS features to include external sensors, actuators and offers several options for actively monitoring the entire infrastructure around the UPS solution.

Temperatursensor

The SM_T_COM temperature sensor monitors the temperatures in a UPS system’s operating environment in real time. If the operating conditions reach concerning values, a corresponding alarm or emergency can be triggered.

Combo sensor for temperature und humidity

The sensor can be directly connected to the COM2 port on the BACS WEBMANAGER and offers real-time monitoring of the temperature and the relative humidity. This makes it possible to actively monitor the direct environment around the UPS solution.

Hydrogen Sensor

Hydrogen typically forms as a by-product of the charging process of batteries and is released into the environment via valves or open cases. Since it is much lighter than the surrounding air, it rises and collects on overhangs, in shelves, niches, ceiling areas, etc. As soon as the hydrogen concentration reaches about 4%, an unstable and highly flammable gas mixture will be formed up.Since hydrogen itself is odorless and colorless, you need specialized sensors like the SM_H2_LC require hydrogen sensors with which hydrogen can be detected at an early stage.The hydrogen sensor SM_H2_LC has a two-stage warning system in which the warning levels are triggered independently of one another.When used with the SENSORMANAGER, the SM_H2_LC is placed directly on the digital inputs in order to receive a corresponding warning signal.

AC & DC Current Sensors

Current sensors for measuring AC and DC charging/discharging simoultaneously at BACS. Diameter 40mm/1.57in.Pluggable system, BACS addressing through DIP SW. The more flexible design allows subsequent installation into existing high voltage AC systems. A hinge allows opening the upper ring to simplify inserting the power cables. Retrofitting with this hall sensor is quick and cost-effective: The fold-out ring makes the installation work easier and extensive conversions unnecessary. Including connection cable RJ12/6_5.

Current sensors can provide a wide range of useful information about the discharging and charging currents within a UPS solution managed by a BACS. These additional sensors can, for instance, check the quality of the current flow: Irregularities in the current flow can indicate hidden defects that can negatively impact secondary batteries.

Mounting Clips

These module clips were specially developed to mount the BACS bus converter or the BACS splitting box to an industrially standardized DIN rail.

This allows for the orderly and space-saving placement of the modules.
